Canyon Spirit Expands Scenic Train Route to Salt Lake City, Unveils New Branding

Luxury train Canyon Spirit is expanding its Rockies to the Red Rocks route to include Salt Lake City, Utah, in 2026. This new train route will connect Denver, Colorado with Salt Lake City over three scenic travel days.

Denver, CO – April 19, 2025Canyon Spirit, the luxury rail line formerly known as Rocky Mountaineer’s Southwest service, will expand its popular Rockies to the Red Rocks route to include Salt Lake City in 2026, the company announced on Tuesday. The new three-day journey will connect Denver with Utah’s capital, adding overnight stops in Glenwood Springs, Colo., and Moab, Utah.

“We could not be more excited to bring our Canyon Spirit train to Salt Lake City and to expand our Rockies to the Red Rocks route further into the beautiful state of Utah,” said Tristan Armstrong, chief executive of the Armstrong Collective, the train’s parent company.

The rebranded Canyon Spirit has operated under the Rocky Mountaineer name since launching its Southwest route in 2021. The shift, Armstrong said, reflects the company’s commitment to showcasing the American Southwest’s striking landscapes, from rugged canyons to sweeping red rock formations and the Colorado River’s winding path.

Though the name is changing, Armstrong emphasized that the line’s hallmark experience—scenic daytime travel in glass-domed coaches with locally inspired cuisine and attentive service—will remain intact. Guests can expect the same immersive storytelling from onboard hosts, highlighting the history and geology of the terrain, alongside a selection of regional wines, beers, and spirits.

The extended route will operate in addition to the existing two-day itinerary between Denver and Moab. The new segment, traversing eastern Utah’s mountain passes and the expansive Great Basin, will offer travelers a more comprehensive view of the region’s natural beauty before reaching Salt Lake City’s urban landscape.

The three-day journey will launch on April 21, 2026, with weekly departures in both directions. Fares, which include hotel accommodations in Glenwood Springs and Moab, start at $2,123 per person before taxes. Bookings are available at www.thecanyonspirit.com.

Canyon Spirit is part of the Armstrong Collective, a family-owned company that also operates Rocky Mountaineer’s three rail routes in Western Canada. Since its inception, Rocky Mountaineer has welcomed more than 2.3 million guests over 35 years, offering curated train journeys through some of North America’s most dramatic landscapes.
