Holland America Is Turning Oosterdam’s Ocean Bar Into the Ship’s Most Seductive New Hangout

With live strings, late-night cabaret, elegant cocktails and a golden-age-of-travel sensibility, Oosterdam’s refreshed Ocean Bar is shaping up to be the kind of place guests may never want to leave.

SEATTLE, WA: SEP 03, 2026 – There are cruise ship bars, and then there are rooms that make you reconsider your evening plans entirely. Holland America Line is aiming squarely for the latter with the reimagined Ocean Bar aboard Oosterdam, a sophisticated new gathering place designed around live music, beautifully made drinks and the increasingly rare luxury of simply having somewhere glamorous to sit, linger and enjoy the night.

Part of the sweeping Holland America Evolution program, the refreshed Ocean Bar will draw inspiration from the golden age of ocean travel, when crossing the sea was as much about the ritual of the journey as the destination itself. A new performance stage, redesigned lounge areas and a more intimate layout will bring guests closer to the musicians while giving the room a richer sense of occasion. Think less anonymous hotel lobby bar, more contemporary ocean liner salon.

The entertainment should give the space its soul. Vivace Strings will add an elegant soundtrack, joined by regional soloists, pianists and late-night cabaret performers. The result is a venue capable of changing mood effortlessly throughout the evening: polished and conversational over pre-dinner cocktails, increasingly spirited as the night unfolds and wonderfully decadent once cabaret takes over.

Just as important, Holland America is giving guests room to enjoy it properly. The bar is being relocated, seating refreshed and gathering areas reconsidered so that the Ocean Bar feels less like somewhere passengers merely pass through and more like somewhere they deliberately choose to spend an evening.

The Ocean Bar transformation is one element of Holland America Evolution, the largest fleet update in the company’s 153-year history. Inspired by guest feedback and successful features aboard Holland America’s Pinnacle Class ships, the program will refresh public spaces, expand popular venues and elevate the onboard experience across six Vista and Signature Class ships, beginning with Oosterdam and Zuiderdam.
