Carnival’s “Slide for St. Jude” Raises $50,000 for St. Jude Children’s Research Hospital
Carnival Has Raised $7 Million+ for St. Jude in the Past 5 Years
1 May 2015 – Carnival Breeze – To commemorate the five-year anniversary of Carnival Cruise Line’s partnership with St. Jude Children’s Research Hospital, Carnival launched a “Slide for St. Jude” initiative which raised $50,000 for the hospital. To kick it off, guests and crew were encouraged to slide down one of the shipboard water slides during a special fleet-wide event and, for each person who did so, Carnival donated up to $10 to St. Jude. Carnival’s President Christine Duffy took the first plunge –down the Carnival Breeze’s 312-foot-long Twister water slide.
To further up the ante, Carnival then challenged its social media followers on Facebook and Twitter and offered to donate $5 for every share or re-tweet of the “Slide for St. Jude” posts on the line’s social media channels to reach a grand total $50,000 donation.
Carnival announced their partnership with St. Jude Children’s Research Hospital in April 2010 and expanded the relationship in 2013 with the cruise line serving as the hospital’s Official Celebration Partner. Carnival has currently raised more than $7 million for St. Jude over the past five years.
The mission of St. Jude Children’s Research Hospital is to advance cures, and means of prevention, for pediatric catastrophic diseases through research and treatment. This mission is consistent with the vision of the hospital’s founder Danny Thomas. St Jude proudly states that no child will ever be denied treatment based on race, religion or a family’s ability to pay.
